Ndani TV’s Series Game On is the drama we all need
If you’re aware of Ndani TV, you will know that they enjoy causing chaos through their YouTube web series. Game On is not left out.
The first season of Game On was interesting but I think any other person who saw season one thought it was a bit flat — this was mostly because the episodes were too short and the cliffhangers were a bit meh. Unknown to us, Ndani was about to return with a season 2 filled with chaos — all the things we complained about in season one were fixed, and they even gave us up to three episodes a week — what did we do to deserve this?
Game On tells the story of four friends/two couples Leye&Mayowa (long term relationship) + Osaze&Tega (married), and how they navigate their respective relationships.
Before I delve into the drama of season two, let me do a quick recap of season one.
In season one we saw Mayowa and Leye breakup because Leye was not ready to put a ring on it. Unfortunately they had just moved in together, got stuck with each other and inevitably got back together, until Mayowa found another girls underwear in his bedroom and broke up with him again because cheating is unacceptable duh — DRAMA!
In the same season, we saw Leye struggle with his finances but Saze insists they live in a serviced apartment he couldn’t afford and didn’t want to help with any money even though she was richer than him. He found out she had stacks of cash at home and was even building a house without telling him — more DRAMA!
So in season two, all the problems we saw in season one began to fully manifest.
Mayowa got a new boyfriend but Leye wasn’t having it because he was still in love with her. And yes, they’re still living together. Long story short, they get back together but there’s still this underwear hanging over our heads and we are yet to find the owner.
Suddenly, Leye and Saze are together in Leye and Mayowa’s kitchen, and they obviously have this crazy sexual chemistry going on. They’re almost locking lips when Saze says: “Take that thought out of your mind, we’re not having sex again”, and then Tega walks in after hearing the whole conversation and it’s all over. I think the worst part of this situation is that Mayowa had asked Leye if he cheated and he said no and promised her, only for her to break up with the nice lad she was dating and then finds out on the same day that Leye did not only cheat, he cheated with her best friend!
I think like me everyone assumed that the story would be highly focused on Mayowa and Leye yet again with their indecisiveness but we were wrong. The writers found a way to create a wholesome story focused on all four of them, showing us every single emotion they were going through at each point in time.
I think my favorite scene has to be this revelation scene — it showed the brilliance of all the actors in the midst of all the chaos. Tega attempting to exit the situation without killing anyone; Saze screaming and begging Tega, looking like her life had come crumbling down; Leye confused and searching for quick solutions; And then Mayowa, once she heard “it was Saze”, the camera zoomed in on her face so it felt like she was the only one in the room while everyone else made noise in the background that she couldn’t even hear. Before you know it, she pulls Saze’s wig in an attempt to murder the adulteress who consoled her after betraying her trust. Then there’s Leye who just managed to gain her trust back, kneeling to beg for her forgiveness before receiving a hot slap — this is hands down the best performance I’ve seen from Eso Dike in any film!
Now, let’s talk about their reactions:
Tega — He was the most mature of all of them and handled the situation like a champ. Tega was not a saint, I mean the man got a vasectomy without telling his wife but it goes to show that there were serious cracks in the marriage from the beginning. I think we all forgot about the vasectomy once the topic of cheating came up. Obviously being cheated on is a very awful situation to be in but Tega was cordial, he ate Sazes food, hugged her, etc. He contemplated cheating with his sneaky secretary Eniola, but he didn’t. He asked for a divorce instead and that, to me, is the best way to have resolved the situation between him and Saze. It wasn’t just about the cheating, it was who she cheated with, and all the other issues they had been dealing with since they got married.
Mayowa — Mayowa was doing so well until her plans to move out failed. I think she should have waited for Leye to leave as he only had two weeks remaining. Instead, she decided to ruin his life by telling his new company in Kenya that he had been involved in FRAUD! Honestly I was shocked. I know hurt people hurt people, but she will regret this one. She should have taken up the opportunity to live with Jude when she had it.
Saze — She was the most selfish character. She was definitely not sorry for what she did. I understand being drunk with your male best friend but initiating sex with him? And then telling Mayowa “I thought you were done with him” — sigh! What a messy girl. You could tell that she didn’t see what she did as a big deal and expected to be forgiven instantly by her husband, the man she cheated on. She did everything wrong. Instead of being patient and giving the man some time, she tried to force forgiveness down his throat by constantly showing up at his office to cause drama and accusing him of getting a vasectomy without her knowledge (which in my opinion is no longer an offense after you’ve cheated with his best friend ma’am).
Leye — Leye is the biggest loser in all of this and I’m not really sure why! The guy just wanted to start a new life and now he might be dead! How did the writers make us feel sorry for Leye who was also an active participant in the cheating? Bravo!
Overall Game On is a must watch with a great cast that makes you fall in love with and relate to each character; fantastic and unpredictable storytelling that’ll leave you at the edge of your seat.
It’s 9/10 for me.
