Young famous and African S2

This time last year, we were blessed with the first season of Young, Famous and African. It was new, fresh and filled with a lot of juicy drama. Season two is now upon us with the original cast members Annie and 2face Idibia, Naked and Kayleigh, Andile (and his two baby mamas), Swanky Jerry, Diamond Platinumz, Nadia and Zari. Three new cast members have also been added to the fold — Bonang Matheba, Fantana and Luis.

We all know reality shows are scripted but this years’ was blatantly obvious so it made it less interesting than season one. Let’s chat through my thoughts on each character in this season.

Andile

He was always trying to mediate but he looked and sounded ridiculous. Everytime he came up, he felt like the unassigned narrator/presenter with his unsolicited speeches/intros. Are we watching a reality show or a documentary?

Also him trying to get back with his two baby mamas? Annoyingly staged and it was too obvious.

2face

Nothing new here, we all know he doesn’t respect Annie. He embarrassed her with his views on men cheating on women. But hey we don’t care, it works for them in their marriage.

Basically, 2face believes cheating is in men’s nature and is not afraid to voice his opinions. Something I’ve noticed about men is that they never call each other out when one of them is out of line. Nobody even followed Annie when she walked out of the situation to see if she was okay. It’s hilarious how the men were blaming Nadia for asking him direct questions when they should have called 2face out for disrespecting his wife.

I also don’t get why he’s on the show!!!

Annie

Best of luck to you sis. Her outfits were trash in this season. I’m bored of the whole “we need to save Annie from 2face” narrative. Let’s move on now!

Kayleigh

She’s sweet. She was actually my favorite character in this season mostly because I loved her diary sessions; I resonated with each one because it felt like she was speaking my mind. Her relationship with Naked is somewhat problematic but it works for them and I guess that’s fine.

Fantana

She claims she’s the biggest dancehall star in Ghana but we don’t know her. How can she be the biggest dancehall queen and she says she can’t dance or is an average twerker?

Also, that whole move with Diamond was yuck! She embarrassed herself trying to have an issue with Zari when there was clearly none; fighting about a man that doesn’t even care about you — dead!

Luis

He’s young, trying to feel among, has a strange mindset e.g. wanting to buy eggs from a random woman so he can make a baby and be a single dad by 30 — meh!

Swanky

Still love his fashion game but I’m not sure where to place him in this season. He was cool calm and collected in the last season but in this one, he seemed to be causing a lot of problems. This beef with him and Annie seems like it was scripted by the show, it felt like forced drama.

Bonang

This woman came in for like two episodes, caused problems and backed out. She didn’t want the show to “stain her white” clearly! She bullied Luis and made him look like a liar — highly unnecessary but I guess it was best for her to leave because she had beef with too many people in the group and it would have exposed more of her bad behaviors.

Zari

I couldn’t stand her in the last season but in this season, it seemed like she was the only one who wasn’t acting. I also just enjoyed watching her grace the screens with her effortless beauty.

Diamond

It seems like he’s the only one who has an actual job, the rest are just vibing.

Diamond is also a problem starter without even realizing it. The whole situation with him telling Fantana things about Zari was just ridiculous. Men will disgrace you and leave you out to dry!

Nadia/Naked/Khanyi

They were boring and didn’t have much fun or drama worth mentioning.

Long story short, this season dragged. It wasn’t giving all the energy that last season had, it just felt like a hate contest. Episode 9 was so embarrassing with Annie and Swanky shouting at each other, then fake crying and saying “I don’t want to be right anymore”. All these reality shows are mad toxic. What is the point of all this drama?
